Surprise!

It's publication day!

Wait, what? What do I mean publication? Well . . .

Way back in the Summer of 2016 I was an exhausted mom of a newborn desperate for something, anything, to make me feel like myself again. So when I saw a call for submissions for the new online magazine Stranded, I took a deep breath and sent off a proposal for a short history of the knitted swimsuit. And they accepted!

For this article I got to go back to my roots and head to the library. While my graduate work was on Soviet cultural history, I've always wanted to work more with textile and fashion. Fortunately I live within a sensible drive from N.C. State, which has a well respected textile program. As you can imagine, where there is a program of study there must be a library.

I won't get into the details of what I learned. You can read all about that in the article when you pick up your copy of Warm Weather 2017. If you read it, please let me know what you think! And I'd love to hear if you have any experience with knitted swimsuits.
