Nostalgic Luxury

Can you believe it is already August?

Yesterday was the first day of school and it was so weird not to be there greeting a new crop of students. But I'm really enjoying my time at home and I'm super excited it is finally August because there is something awesome happening this weekend you are going to want to check out.

You remember how I teased some new Lollipop Yarn back on World Wide Knit in Public Day? Well this weekend in addition to a ton of her ever lovely self-striping she is finally releasing four new bases in new verigated, tonal, and speckled colorways. You can read all about them over on her site. I got to fondle them all, but brought home a duo on her Viviani base, a 70/20/10 Merino/Yak/Nylon blend.

Guys, the only way I can describe this is -- OMG! I am in love with this base. I've never knit with Yak before, and it is as luxurious as I've always been lead to believe. Because it is a blend you get all of the luxury at a much more affordable price. And the way it takes color? You might not be able to tell that well because it is still a WIP, but the darker color has so much depth that every stitch has a hint of something a little different.

The other thing I love about this yarn is the stitch definition. As tedious as the Nostalgia Shawl has been with a two month old holding all my attention, I am really glad I chose to knit it because of how crisp the lace looks. The garter is just the right amount of squishy and the yarn is not splitty, so I have not had to worry about tinking back when I inevitably forget what row I am on.

If you want to get a better sense of what this yarn looks like in a finished object, check out Joan's Nostalgia, which she actually knit out of the same color set as mine, just with reversed dominance. And set your alarms! This update is going to be epic.
