You might have noticed in my last post that I have a new pair of socks to share. Want to see?
These are the Ampersand (upside down) socks in Desert Vista Dyeworks, Sport It. I'm normally a top down sock knitter, but I wanted to be sure that I ended up with two socks that were the same length. The colorway is DVD Logo and it took me an embarrasing amount of time to realize that DVD was for her company name, not the video discs. I could not for the life of me figure out how these colors made sense with that name. It was only as I started the second sock that my brain finally kicked in. Sigh.
This is my first foray into sport weight socks, and my timing could not have been more perfect. I did not have a baseline for what my gauge would be like, so I just knit to pattern, which resulted in a larger, slightly baggy sock. Not ideal for regular socks (and why these pictures are on sock blockers), but perfect for boot socks. Ice? Freezing rain? No problem. My feet were cozy and warm, the envy of all muggles.
I knit these as my January entry for the Desert Vista Dyeworks Officially Unofficial Monthly Sock Club. The idea is that you knit a pair of socks every month out of Desert Vista yarn and earn points that turn into shop discounts. Pretty cool, right? After knitting these I am even more determined to participate. We'll see how I'm holding up when we get to May.
